Hi,

I have just tried to create a Home Folder on my server and it came up with
this error:

"The \\server\home folders\sally home folder was not created because you do
not have create access on the server. The user account has been updated with
the new home folder value but you must create the directory manually after
obtaining the required access rights."

I searched MS kb and found this answer KB824688. But I am unable to find
out where I can download this hotfix. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Craig

P.S. How on earth do I keep the news group listing (where it shows what
messages have been posted) at a set width. Every time I click on a message
it gets narrower. I keep widening it but to no avail. I ALWAYS shrinks so I
can only see maybe one word of the Subject.

Thanks again.

Are you logged onto the server, and what permissions does your account have?

For hotfixes, unless there's a download link in the KB article, you must do
as directed in the article and call Microsoft. They shouldn't charge you for
the call unless you ask something other than "Please send me the hotfix
mentioned in KBxxxxxx."
Thanks, Craig

Best advice - ditch the !@#$% web interface and use a newsreader client. You
already have OE, which works, or you can look at others, such as Forte
Agent. Not only will it resolve your issue, it's a lot easier to do nearly
everything there, including searching, which is always a good idea to do
before you post, as well as mark messages to be watched, and filter based on
replies to your posts.

The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can
subscribe to as many groups as you like.

For tips on using the web interface, should you prefer to use it, see

I am logged on as Administrator, and am supposed to have total access. I
will try and get in contact with MS today.

Thanks for your help.

P.S. and thanks for the heads up with OE, this is 100% better.

I have just read that this is no longer the best way to set things up in
2003, but should be using GP's. Is this correct?

Thanks

I have been doing some reading in here, and apparently it is no longer the
best way of setting up the users via the Home Folder. I just wanted to
confirm should I do it via user properties or via GP's.

Thanks

You're welcome, and yes, I agree!

Beyond my ken, I'm afraid. I know how to do folder redirection, etc., via
policy, but if there's a way to set home directories that way, I don't know
it.
