I am confused as to which software and feature to use to burn a CD containing
jpeg photos that is playable on jpeg compatible DVD players. I have Sonic
Digital Media and Windows Media players / recorders. Help?

Your DVD Player is compatible with JPG images but the only way that will
work is if you simply create a data disk with the JPG's on it.

If using a CD you can simply use Windows Explorer and drag the files to the
burner drive and then, after going to that drive, click "Burn these files to
CD"

If using a DVD you still need other software, your DVD burner should have
come with something to do the trick, to create a data disk and burn the
JPG's to the disk.

If you want to create a video slideshow that will play in your DVD player
that's a little more complicated.
First I recommend using Photo Story 3 to create the slideshow since it is
far better than Movie Maker with still imaging and transition control. Then
if you want you can take the WMV file created in Photo Story 3 into Movie
Maker to add credits etc... although you don't HAVE to do that.
Next you need a DVD Authoring program to create a DVD, again your drive
should have come with something but not always the best software for the
job, and import either the WMV from Photo Story 3 or the WMV/AVI from Movie
Maker and create your DVD.
My website offers more step-by-step instructions for most of these tasks as
well as information about DVD Authoring programs.

Thanks for the information and I have referred to your website which by the
way is very good and I am certain I will be back there. But I don't think I
have an answer yet because I don't think I asked my question correctly. Let
me try again.

Can I create a video slideshow on a CD that will play on a DVD player?

I do have a new burner program (Sonic) but I only have a CD RW drive but not
a DVD RW drive.

Thanks to anyone willing to help!

Yes you can.
You have 2 different ways to do it.

1) You can use Windows Explorer to copy the JPG's directly to the CD as I
described earlier.
Using this method since your DVD Player accepts JPG images it will read the
JPG's directly off the CD and display them on your TV. This way will not
allow you to create any panning, zooming, or transitioning effects.

2) You can create a slideshow with Photo Story 3 and then create a VCD. Even
though you are burning to CD not DVD you need a DVD Authoring program. The
majority if not all of these programs also allow burning a VCD which is
basically a DVD on CD. This is where my website comes in, I recommend
downloading the trial version of Movie Factory to create your VCD. In the
"DVD Creation" section of my website you will find Movie Factory. There is a
download link where you can get the free trial version and there is also a
tutorial for creating a DVD. The same basic steps apply to creating a VCD.
