I have a pentium 4 desktop machine with Windows XP Home
edition and 40GB hard drive. The machine comes with XP pre-
installed and only one partition formatted to be NTFS.

I would like to use Disk Management tool to create a new
partition from the free disk space available within this
drive, without disturbing the existing windows xp
installation and installed programs.

I tried using Disk anagement tool. But I dont have any
menu options to create a new partition.
Also, if i delete the existing partition will i need to re-
install windows xp and all of the installed programs ?

Any help in this will be greatly appreciated.

XP does not have that capability, you'll need a 3rd party program such as Partition Magic. It is unlikely that you will be able to
delete that partition with Disk Manager as it is the boot and system partition, XP should not allow you to do this, or format it
either. Only way to do it without a 3rd party app is to boot from the XP CD, and delete, then recreate your partitions during setup,
all data will be lost.
