I was wondering, if there is any set rules for creating audio that can be
imported into MM. I have conversion software, but do any specific digital
video cameras produce in a format that I can convert to wma?. My digital
camera does in quicktime which I know won't convert. I need to make about a
ten minute audio to add to a movie. Thanks a salways.

I guess you know Movie Maker has a recording function?
Tools / Narrate Timeline.

And the following freeware can extract audio from your .mov files.
(converting to .wav might be the best bet)

Also the following converter can convert .mov to .wma:

Thanks John-no i didn't know about the recording fucntion in MM until now.
looking at it, it says to drag the playback indicator on the timeline which
is a square with a vertical line in it. I must be blind as a bat because I
don't see the playback indicator on the timeline. I use Windows XP Media 2003
with SP 3

Well...actually...if you simply wish to create an audio
file...don't worry about the timeline...just begin recording
by left clicking the 'Start Narration' button.

When you left click the 'Stop Narration' button you will
be prompted to save your audio file.

Now...to answer your question...

Be sure you are in timeline view...not storyboard view...

Drag a video clip onto the timeline...

Now...click the 'Play' button...

You should see a vertical line progressing across the timeline...
that is the 'Playback Indicator'...if you place your pointer on the
small square at the top of the vertical line......you can left click/
drag it left or right.
