Last week I posted a question about creating an XPe recovery CD but got no
response. So, this week I'm going to post a new more general question.

I need to be able to create a bootable recovery CD so that customers can
reinstall my image in the field. My system will have a 1G compact flash card
(that the user can't really get at) that needs to have 1 partition taking up
the entire card. Any suggestions?

Here are a couple ideas:

1. Get WinPE and create a boot CD that also contains the udpated XPe image.
2. Use Ghost to create a recovery CD

Or:

3. Create a RAMDISK-bootable CD which contains a recovery image.

I found it was easier to create a RAMDISK image than customize WinPE,
since the WinPE process is complicated, and besides, you already know
how to customize an XPe image for your hardware. :-)

My recovery solution boots a RAMDISK from an El-Torito CD (created
using the XPe tools hd2iso), then loads a custom application from the
standard Joliet drive, which can partition, format, copy/unzip, etc.
You'll need to search this NG for some of Slobodan's registry tweaks
for a RAMDISK, and the method of creating the RAMDISK image itself from
a hard-disk image.
