Hi,

Is the there a way to insert a field--but *not* a bookmark--to act as a
variable string. For example, wherever the field called color is inserted,
"Blue" displays until I make a change to the field value, say setting the
field to "Red," and then all instances of "Blue" in the single doc file are
updated to "Red."

I see there is a DocVariable, but as far as I can tell, I need to create a
custom macro to set that. I want to set this variable string using the Word
GUI without resorting to macro programming. (Essentially, am looking to
duplicate FrameMaker's simple variable feature, if you are familiar with
that.)

Regards,

Sean

You can create custom document properties (File | Properties | Custom) and
insert DocProperty fields in the document. When you change the content of
the properties and update fields in the document, the displayed text will
change.
