Creating a relationship in Access

Does anyone know why when you create a one-to-many relationship between 2
tables the line between them in the graphic does not show the 1-to-infinity
symbols unless you enforce referential integrity? Referential integrity has
no relation to the type of relationship between tables as far as I know. It's
always been like that in Access.

Seems reasonable to omit the 1 and infinity symbols as a way of indicating a
relationship without RI in a diagramatic way.

A relationship without RI is nothing more than a line drawn between 2
tables. You may be able to determine if it is a one-to-many if there is a
unique index on one side of the relationship, but there is no guarantee that
you will leave that index there tomorrow. It is not a defined relationship
at all: merely a hint about where you might like the join line when you
create a query with the 2 tables.
