creating a log in page

What would be the best way to create a log in page for
employees to use? create a workgroup or use a form and
hardcode it? Or any other suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

There was a time when it took a long time to secure a database. Now with the
built in wizards, it doesn't take too long at all. The hardest thing would
be to understand the security model. I suggest you read the security FAQ and
go for the user-level security:
