Creating a database to hold a catalogue of files?

I've absolutely no idea how to create an index to make it
easy to search for my music files. Can anybody help me
out? it would be appreciated though i am embarassed!.

You can use programs to catalog your MP3s. One I would suggest is Easi MP3.
You should also be able to do searches within that program. You can get it FREE
at http://www.deloford.com/
Another program that will do EVERYTHING is J. River Media Center. Although it
is a multimedia player, it has superb cataloging and tagging functions.

Most Media Jukebox type players allow you to do searches, as they all store the
info in a database.
