I would like to create a master powerpoint and then from that create
additional powerpoints that are vendor specific to different clients.

Additionally I would like to only have to edit the master powerpoint.

I guess something similar to link but I dont want to have to click the link
to display the external page.

Could someone point me in the right direction?

Not sure if I understood your question.
Are you trying to
1 - Create a template, then create different presentation files using this
template? If so, see
http://www.indezine.com/products/powerpoint/ppcreatemp.html

Or 2 - Create a presentation file that acts as a navigation menu. From the
menu, you can link to different presentation files or slides.

My master would have approx. 200 slides. Some of the slides would be used in
every presentation. Is it possible to create a few different presentations
that use slide from the master while if I edit a slide in the master all the
PPTs that use the master will be updated.

Correct me if i'm wrong - You have a presentation with 200 slides and you
want to view this presentation in different orders/ways depending on what
link you have clicked at the start. All this happens on one presentation file.

To achieve this, you can create a navigation menu which are linked to
multiple custom shows. Follow the tutorial found here on how to create Custom
Shows: http://www.awesomebackgrounds.com/powerpointmenu.htm#MethodOne
