How am I create custom make special characters which are not available in the word
One example of this special character is the symbol for real number in mathematics which
consists of a vertical line and a capital letter R

Hi Kwong

Try Insert > Symbol. Or, if you don't find a solution there, try using
the Equation Editor. To do that, Insert > Object. In the list, choose
Microsoft Equation. If it's not listed there, it means it was not
installed when you installed Word. If that's the case, use Add/Remove
programs in the Control Panel to add it.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Kwong,

In the Insert > Symbol dialog, set the font to Lucida Sans Unicode if
you have that font -- it contains many more mathematical symbols than
most other fonts. For example, you'll find the double-struck R, as
well as N for the natural numbers and C for the complex numbers, in
the "Letterlike Symbols" area. As a shortcut, type 211D in the
document and press Alt+X.
