create slideshow from a LOT of pictures

Is there any way to create a slideshow from a bunch of pictures (about 400)?
I don't need a highly polished slideshow, so I would like a shortcut to
inserting each picture into a new slide.

Simple way

Insert > picture > new photo album - navigate to the folder with your pics
and shift / select the ones you want to insert.

Better way but needs addin

It is nice (and expected) that Photo Album imports images, one per slide,
and nicely centers them.
That is a feature that would be very nice to have on the single image import
dialog:
Insert > Picture > From file ..
instead of having to center manually.

held desires to easily load image libraries into PPT so
I can show them with a digital projector.
