Create rescue disk

Hi Everyone,
I need some major help.
I have a 98 machine that I think has a virus on. When you are on the
mahine it's very slow and HDD is always clicking. I don't know when it was
last virus checked (am trying to fix it)

It's got 98 on and when you try and run NAV 2004 Pro on it the task just
stops responding.

My plan is to boot in dos and run the virus scan through that, however, I
have read on symantecs site about creating a 'rescue disk' and it says get
unifected machine (my 2000 pro ones sounds like the chap) and create a
rescue disk from there by clicking 'rescue' on the main screen. problem is I
can't see it anywhere! :o(

What other way can I do this? I have Nav2004 Pro on the 98 machine, so
hopefully I should be able to run it on that after a 98 'command prompt'
boot. But I don't know what files to run.

Can someone help of advise the best way to do this? I tried to put this HDD
in my home machine to scan it on there, but when I put this HDD in my
machine got blue screen of death (prob due to driver conflict for my other
secondary drive.

Appriciate any help, I am getting deperate.

you might just try F-prot and NOD32 DOS scanners. the NOD32 is much faster
than F-prot (on my box), if that's an issue. just boot into DOS and run them.

you could also use Ultimate Boot CD and antivirus, or make a custom disk and
add a DOS scanner. i don't know about Norton, i haven't used it in 2 years.

No need for a rescue disk to clean your Win 98 if it still can boot from its own
drive.
What other way can I do this? I have Nav2004 Pro on the 98 machine, so

The best cleaners from Windows viruses and worms, as well as plugins and
spyware, and possibly also the only ones that may be effective in your case, run
only from Windows. Preferably from safe mode with command prompt. Windows 2000
and XP have such boot mode inherently. For Windows 98, I wrote the ToggleMode
utility that will let start Windows in a safe with command prompt mode. Get it

For virus cleaning, use either McAfee's Stinger and / or Trend Micro's Sysclean.
For spyware and plugins use Spybot Search & Destroy. Download and install the
two, or three packages to your hard drive, switch boot mode to "safe" by running
TOGGLMOD from your desktop, restart to safe mode with command prompt (just
restart the computer) and run the cleaning programs from the command line.

When done, rerun TOGGLMOD, this time from the command line, and restart the
computer normally.

Lastly, if you insist on making a rescue disk, then use
www.invircible.com/iv_tools.php#makeresq You won't need it, trust me, but just
in case ... ;-)
