I don't like any of the choices for flow charts in smartart. They all look
too fancy(can't think of any better word for it). We have a VERY complicated
org chart for our company. (more than 35 levels) I need to recreate it in
PowerPoint 2007. I need very simple, very plain boxes with arrows and lines
connecting them. I don't want fancy colors, backgrounds, fonts, 3-D boxes,
boxes with shadows, etc. I tried to create the org chart witout smartart, but
I can't get the lines to attach to the boxes in a uniform fashion. How can I
create a complicated org chart without smartart? Is there downloadable
smartart that looks better than the awful smartart that comes loaded with the
software. Help! Thanks. BTW, I hate Office 2007.

Just use plain shapes. Draw one rectangle and format it to your needs
(color, sample text, etc.). Then copy it using Ctrl+D as often as you need.
Roughly arrange the rectangles. Adjust them with the arrange tools. Use
Z-shaped lines to connect them. Make sure the ends of the line "stick",
which is indicated by red dots.

Best regards,
Ute

Also, if you still have PowerPoint 2002 or 2003 around you can create the org
chart using the Insert | Diagram option -- and then bring in the org chart
slide into your PowerPoint 2007 presentation.
