I'm sorry to be repetitive but I'm still confused after reading all the
threads on what is needed to download video from a Sony Handycam to a hard
drive (Dell 4600 running on XP) via USB, create a project in MM, save as .mvp
(or other extension) and then convert to a file my JVC DVD player will read.
The DVD player will read VCD, MPEG-4 (.asf) and also supports DivX 5.x, 4.x,
and 3.11. Is there a software product available that will allow for the
conversion movie maker to one or more of these extensions.

Thanks!

I assume by the question that you have gotten as far as to download to the
HDD from your camera.
And further if you've done that you have been able to import into MM since
that's a relatively simple step.
From there you need to add any effects or other clips etc. that you want and
create your movie.
Don't simply "save project" as all that does is, go figure, save your
project.
Instead you need to click on "Save to my computer" under "Finish Movie"
Your creation will then be saved as a .WMV file.
I don't know of any converters to convert to .ASF. That particular Media
type is a bit of a pain to work with. If you wish to view it in your DVD
player your best bet is to get yourself a DVD authoring program such as
"Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator" or my new favorite to work with "Ulead DVD
MovieFactory" and import your video into that to create your DVD.
