Is it me, or did someone at Microsoft loose their mind.

I have been writing Access applications for more than a dozen years,
and in that time I have mostly used Menu bars (File Edit ... Help) as
the primary interface for users to navigate through my apps. It's a
familiar interface that people are comfortable with.

I do not have to think about what is a good Icon to use for a Search
function, I only need to create a menu that says "Search". It's fast,
easy, and non artistic. That is to say, it's perfect for ME! While I
have no talent for pretty interfaces, I am a pretty good coder.

Imagine my surprise (frustration) when I could not find any way to
Add/Edit a menu bar in Access 07. Menu bars that were created on 2000,
or 03 work great on 07 and 10. It's just that you can not create a new
one, or edit an existing one. Just plain crazy.

Am I the only person on the planet who sees this as NUTS?

You may not be the only one, but I'm afraid you're in the minority. You don't really need to be a graphic designer to include search facilities without using the menu bar. You can do it in the ribbon as well, even though thatwould involve a bit of work. Most of it is coding though, which you are saying you're good at.

Personally I love the ribbon. I have a large 24 in screen. Having the ribbon, allows me to see al the controls in a given category at once, without too much clicking around. All in all, personally i'm quite happy with the direction Microsoft Access 2k7 and 2k10 are headed in. This is the new reality, and it is here to stay. So you may need to adapt, and instead of fightingit and clinging to the old, embrace it and find a way to make it work for you

Just my 2 pennies worth...
