Create custom menu (maybe shortcut)

I'm basically an Access developer and am new to PPT.

I would like to create a custom menu to run a couple functions I have
written, with the help of John Wilson. In Access when I create a new menu, I
have the option of making it a shortcut menu, but that doesn't appear to be
the case in PPT (XP). On the Commands tab, Access also has a "Custom"
command, that you can name and when it is selected the specified function
will run. I don't see this option in the PPT Customization dialog, and when
I selected one of the canned menu items, it did not appear to give me an
option to change the function that get run when that menu item is selected.
Anyone got some help on how to accomplish this?

In the sense of assigning the menu item a shortcut keystroke combination?
Unfortunately, we can't do this in PPT, any version.
