Can one create desktop icons with some program that ships with XP-Home? With
Paint I can create the 16x16 icon image, but it only seems able to store it
as a GIF or various other formats -- not as an icon.

Thanks.

Bill,

Use any third-party application like IconForge, MicroAngelo

Make you image at 32x32 or 64x64, save it in Paint as a bmp.
The rename it with an .ico extension. Browse to the picture
using the change icon in properties. Select the picture and
XP will size it for you.

Works great! Thanks for the pointer.

I went to school with a Bill Martin about 45 years ago back
in Illinois. Any chance that is you?

Glad the tip worked, unless you are doing a lot of icons,
this works just fine.

No -- you wouldn't believe how common the name is. There are 70,000+ in
Florida alone. Now let's talk about credit report problems....

It isn't hard to do and to think, some people pay extra to
buy a program to do it for them.

| > How many icons have you done so far?
|
| Just the one that I needed. I didn't like the standard
icon that ships with
| the newest version of Eudora, so I grabbed a small mailbox
GIF and converted
| it as you suggested.

| Thanks...
