For the life of me, I can not figure out how to create a
2nd contact list with Outlook 5.1.2600.1106, so that I
have one list for business & the other for personal
contacts. Many thanks in advance.

That's not Outlook.
That's Outlook Express.
This is a group to support Outlook from the Office group of programs.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and is a quite different
program despite its similar name..

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
outlook express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:

microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.mail.mac for the Macintosh version of OE

You can find more help on OE here:

Hello ...

I have this same problem too. I need a 2nd contact list for Outlook (not express.) It has nothing to do with an overflow of contacts, I simply need to have two contact lists distinguishable from one another. I've searched all the help files before coming here, without success

I'd be so grateful if someone could help me with this
Thanks in advance ... swan

Hello Russ :

Thank you so much for your reply

The "problem" was simply in being unable to create a 2nd contact list in Outlook (not Express.) I apologise for being unclear in my last post

It really is necessary for me to be able to do so for my business

Thanking you in advance ...

File > New > Folder
Create a Folder that contains "Contact Items"
Once you do, R click this Folder. In its properties select the Outlook
Address Book Tab. There enable it as an email address book.

That just means your Outlook Address Book has lost track of its connection
to your Contacts Folder(s). It is not unusual for the Outlook Address Book
to "lose track" of the connection to its Contacts Folder when you move or
import your PST or update your Outlook version or OS. Use the following
steps to reset the connection, depending on your Outlook version. Note that
in some instances you may actually have to remove the Outlook Address Book
completely from your Profile, close Outlook, and then re-add it before you
can get it to work.

Outlook 2000, Corp/Workgroup:
Go to Tools > Services. Make sure the Outlook Address Book service is
listed. If not, add it. Next, R click on the Contact folder or folders you
want the OAB to display, choose "Properties", go to the Outlook Address Book
tab and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box. You may
also need to go to Tools > Options > Addressing Tab and choose to show your
Contacts folder.

Outlook 2002:
Go to Tools | E-mail accounts, select "View or change existing directories
or address books", and click OK. If you don't see the OAB in the Directories
and Address Books list, click the Back button, then select "Add a new
directory or address book", then "Additional Address Books", and add the
OAB. Then keep clicking Back until you get back to the first dialog box,
and go back to the Directories and Address Books list as you did earlier.
Once the OAB appears in the list, select it and then click Change to make
sure the Contacts folder(s) you want to display are listed. If any of them
aren't listed, you'll need to enable those Contacts folders as Outlook
Address Books by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, clicking
the Outlook Address Book tab, and checking the "Show this folder as an
E-mail address book" box. Make sure you restart Outlook after making these
changes.

Hello again :)

I managed to do everything you said - and it looks exactly like a 2nd
address book in Outlook. I was thrilled!
However, when I try to create a new mail message and then select the
"To..." field in the message to insert a name - this is the Microsoft
Outlook message that I receive:
****************************
The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated
with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions. for information on how to remove
this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Outlook help.
****************************

*sighs* Odd thing is, that when I click "OK", It brings up the "Select
Names" box where I can select my new address book without any problems.
If you're able to help me further in cutting out the error msg I'd
appreciate it ... thank you ...

Just be careful. I don't want any concussions coming in to the ER until my
shift is over.
