Can someone please explain to me how to check if the iso file I downloaded
is valid ? As you know one never has a complete iso as it contains Boot
Images.
I used UltraIso to open that, but then it creates the various directories
and setup file. Where do I go from there ? Kindly please help me, so I can
finally throw this download out, as in its present state it does not
install.

Run a checksum program on the iso & compare it to the checksum published by
MS when the dl was available.

Piet:

The download is a single file with extension .iso. The RC2 hashes are

32-Bit (2,613,828 KB)
MD5 hash: 83cee5f1642d094670147c5350c57762
SHA1 hash: 067CA4F94D001DE6276F08F76EF0780592B64BFD

64-Bit (3,695,832 KB)
MD5 hash: 23b213d7342b2e957b3db1d98c0ee3e6
SHA1 hash: 5D8C4BCEE51F6912801800E534F6DB5A22F654AE

You can check these with many programs. I use the free HashCalc from
www.slavasoft.com. I use it on XP, but I would be surpried if it does
not work on Vista.

There is no point in trying to use the download unless the hash is
correct. If it is not, you are out of luck because RC2 is closed now.

Thanks David, I downloaded HashCalc, and yes, both my MD5 and SHA hashes
differed, so I can forget about that file. If I may ask, where did you get
the correct Hashes or did you take it from yours, that worked correctly ? It
would be very difficult to check if one does not have the correct info.
Regards and many thanks

Just to be clear, you are trying to burn the Image to a DVD and not
something else. I suppose if you stated you knew how to do this it would
help. What size is the file?

Clark

Sorry Clark, I should have been more clear about this. My file size is
2613.828kbs and I did burn it to a DVD, but it did not want to install. If
you follow the thread further, you will see that my CRC's were not correct.
Thanks.

The hashes were listed on the original RC2 download page, same as for
all the other Vista downloads I have seen. With files this big you just
have to check the hash values. The first thing I do before I download is
cut and paste the hashes to a text file on my computer.

I think I have done 8 Vista downloads (x86 and x64 of 4 releases) and I
had one bad hash value.
