CRC Error

Folks:

I am trying to copy a large (1 Gig) file from a DVD to my hard drive.

First I tried Windows Explorer. About 90% into the copying process up
jumps an error message:

<< Cannot copy filename.VOB: Data Error (Cyclic
Redundancy Check) >>

Next I tried XCOPY /V /C and ran into the same problem: File Creation
Error -
Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)

* Can someone throw some light on this issue

PS I have cleaned the DVD thoroughly. No dust or dirt, etc.
Also, I can play this file using Real Player

Thanks,
Jo.

This will also depend on the DVD you are trying to copy. Some DVD
manufacturers are now intentionally putting a "corrupted" (that's where the
CRC, cyclic redundancy check, error comes from) file on the DVD to prevent
copying. I have only run into a couple of these so far and it prevents
normal DVD copy or ripping software from working on the disks. These disks
are not mainstream products but specialty products that I have purchased.

Hi Jo!
I copy alot of movies and at times I get the crc error, I see that you
have cleaned the disc that helps quite often, I also found this to work
(sometimes),clean the disc with warm water and a liquid soap but rise it in
"cold water" crc errors are cause by
corrupted files or a very small crack in the disc with doesn't interfer with
normal playback the cold water will constrict the crack, hopefully until
your copy program reads past the problem.
Good Luck!
