CRC Error on Floppy drives

Hi,

I was going through all my old games to back them up but when I got to
my Ecoquest 2 game, it seems like the resource files on disks 2, 3, and
4 went corrupt and resulted in a CRC error.

I've searched for data recovery tools and they are all so expensive and
the trial versions only allow partial recovery or no recovery at all. I
was wondering if anyone knew of any free programs that would allow
floppy recovery? Or perhaps something really cheap.

I've even tried it on my older computer's a: drive system and still no
luck. It's sad that one of my most prized (and rare!) games has been
corrupt. :( If anyone has any help to offer, it would be much
appreciated. :)

There might be nothing wrong. Althougb I am not familiar with these
games, old DOS games that were supposedly to be loaded from floppy
diskettes were usually copy-protected. One of these techniques could
generate the report of a CRC error because the checksum of the files
does not match those in the file table, on purpose. Another issue is
that of using the proper floppy diskette drive. Modern floppy disk
drives can only read high-density diskettes and many of them are not
backwards compatible with double-density diskettes. This could also
trigger the error report.

I found an excellent program that restored my corrupt files. It's
called AnyReader and my floppies are like new!
