crazy settings

I use to be able to just double click on anything and it would open. now most
of the stuff i click on my system goes to the "search assistant" page..I
mean, if I right click on a icon the- top chice is "search" and it used to
be" open" what can I do to correct this ? any suggestions?? thanx, RAY
