I was trying to install an extra language and suddenly, in
the advanced tab of the regional settings, I got a
dialogue box asking if I was sure I wanted to reinstall /
uninstall. No option to just cancel! Can't remember what
I plumped for, but now all the folders in C:\Windows have
crazy names like $NTuninstallKB820291$. The system seems
to be running normally, but it's a nuisance. Anybody have
any ideas? THANKS

I can't see any connection between what you have been doing and the 'crazy
filenames'
However the 'crazy filenames' (are they not shown in blue by the way?),
these are uninstall files that are created when you do a Windows Update.
They are by default hidden, if you want them hidden then goto 'Tools' menu,
select 'Folder Options...', select 'View' tab, click 'Restore Defaults'
button, click 'Apply' then 'OK'.

The files are the ones that would be used if you were to uninstall a
'Windows Update' from the Add/Remove programs from the 'Control Panel'.

Many thanks, Patrick. That's probably it. I unhid all
the hidden folders at some point because I was trying to
import templates from my old comuter & had great trouble
in finding the right folder. Yes you're right, they are
in blue.
Phew!
