Avant was slow as mud on my system (98se). MyIE2 shut down my
internet connection after opening a few pages. The only IE shell I've
been happy with is Slimbrowser. As always, YMMV.

Slimbrowser is the best of the IE shells, but it has one annoying trait
that I find hard to live with. That is, you have to click on the page
before you can scroll it. Extremely annoying. I don't know why they don't
fix that. And I've asked in their forums too...

Meanwhile I use Mozilla and Firefox most of the time...

I use FF most of the time too. Regarding your problem with SB, I
haven't experienced that...I just surfed to several pages in it and
when the page comes up I can scroll immediately.

Really? I'm talking about scrolling with the wheel on the mouse, right?
What version are you using. I have 3.94 here.. I just tried it and I have
to click somewhere on the page before I can use the wheel to scroll. Tried

Correct.

Same here.

That is odd. I've never experienced that problem with any version
I've used. The only setting which may be different for me is that I
have mouse gestures turned off. My mouse is a Logitech cordless
wheelmouse.

I just tried turning off mouse gestures but that didn't seem to matter.
Interesting. I've had this problem in all versions since way back. I
mentioned it on the SB forums and several people had the same problem.

Maybe it's something to do with the OS? I'm running Win 2k here...
Otherwise I have no idea.

I'm happy with Mozilla and FF though, so it doesn't much matter. With TBE
installed you get all the tabbed browsing stuff, which is very nice...

That's a focus problem, not a browser problem. If you have Tweakui, go
to the General>>Focus tab setting and set it to allow programs to steal
focus. Then you should be good to go with CB.
BTW...I've tried them all and My IE2 still beats the rest. IMHO.;)

I didn't know SlimBrowser maybe I'll try it someday. So many browsers
and everybody finds one that match his taste. And since Jack feels so
strongly about MyIE2 I'll keep an eye on it :-)

Right now I'm working with AvantBrowser and like it much better then
CrazyBrowser.

Thanks for your help everybody

Hmmm....I run Avant 9.01b118 on my Win98SE machine and it's darn fast. I
have a PIII/700 with 512MB of RAM.

Best is entirely subjective. What's best for you may be totally useless for
me.

PS Avant has this annoying glitch as well. It defaults to the address bar
instead of the page for new windows so when you attempt to scroll it goes
down the list of previously type addresses.

Just tried your TweakUI suggestion, but unfortunately it didn't work. I
don't know what's going on with SB. Oh well... Thanks for trying though..

I tried Avant as well and liked it, but I didn't like the way it seemed to
mess with the Default Browser settings. I wanted to leave my default
browser set to Mozilla, but Avant took over. Otherwise Avant seemed nice..

That is standard behaviour. You must make sure that the window has
focus before you can use the scroll wheel.

Yep, the window does have focus.. None of the other browsers have this
problem. Only Slimbrowser. Very odd..

Some versions of Opera also had this problem. When I am in the history
window and click on a link the page is displayed off the cache - then
the page loses focus, even when it is the only window open. And I have
to click somewhere on the page to regain the focus and use the scroll
feature.

Just wondering: Is Crazy Browser legal in Canada?

If I ever use it, I'll keep it hidden in the basement.
