from cd any suggestions?

I see no way to recover without booting the system. What tools do you have
available for that?

probably need to boot with
a windows cd, log on to the
recovery console and simply
run a chkdsk.

here is more info:

let us know if you encounter
any more difficulties.

If you cannot boot using another genuine winxp cd, and the boot order is set
to boot from cd, then you have a hardware problem

I too, had a crashed laptop with a corupt file. It would not reboot no
matter what I did with my XP setup disk. So finally one night I put my Vista
setup Disk in the drive and it started to read it. I left it in all night
and the next morning I was able to boot it and reinstalled XP. One bad
result, I can't get any sound and I get an error message that I have no
Audio. I have been working on this for about 4 days and I finally came
accross something in WinDVD that said with Intervideo Windows would not play
any music. So I am going to uninstall it and see what happens.
