crashed DC1 server

Hi,

Murphy rules again. An old Windows 2003 server was the first DC in the AD.
It was schema master, etc. The new server arrived this week but... the old
one quit yesterday with a repeated STOP 0x0000007B error. I cannot get it
back up, I cannot even access the disks using a tool like BartPE.

There is a Windows 2003 DC2 server in the same domain that I want to give
all FSMO's. Doing that it rather straight forward as far as I know, but... I
still need to delete the crashed DC1 from the domain. Which KB describes all
the steps? I cannot find it?

How to seize the 5 FSMO roles (Sroll down to SEIZE roles):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255504/en-us

Also you have to make the running DC Global catalog server and DNS server,
if not done.

I've seized the 5 roles.

I'm now removing the old server from the active directory as per
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216498 which is the first referred kb in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555846/en-us
In kb 216498 I'm now at step 18 where it says:

In the DNS console, use the DNS MMC to delete the A record in DNS. The A
record is also known as the Host record. To delete the A record, right-click
the A record, and then click Delete. Also, delete the cname record in the
_msdcs container. To do this, expand the _msdcs container, right-click
cname, and then click Delete.

The funny thing is, the tiodc1 server is the only one listed in the _msdcs
container. Shouldn't my tiodc2 server be listed there as well?
Should I add it manually?

Ok, read some article I found using Google which told me to restart the
netlogon service on the remaining dc and indeed, suddenly the _msdcs
container was filled with relevant info. :-)
