Does anyone know the cause/fix for Movie Maker 2.1 crashing when you
right-click a clip and choose Rename?

Thanks in Advance.

Thanks. But that's not it. This is a .wmv file created by Movie Maker being
imported back into Movie Maker.

I've read about IE7 and DivX causing problems. But I don't think that's the
problem either. I have IE7 and DivX on another machine and Movie Maker works
fine.

Just a couple of thoughts...

Okay...it's a .wmv created by Movie Maker...
but what files were used in the original project?

IE7 could still be the problem...depending
on the hardware and software on a given
machine...they don't all react the exact same.

The original file is from Mini DV tape captured straight into Movie Maker
through IEEE 1394.

I have seen comments about the qedit DLL too. But I don't recally any
mention of crashing on Rename in any of those.

I'm guessing that was an avi file and
should have been compatible.

That's why some suggestions were
offered...the issue you reported is not
common.

Might even be a problem with your video
driver.

If you reduce your Graphics Hardware
Acceleration as per the instructions in the
following article and realize an improvement,
it's an indication that you need to update
your video driver:

When you solve the issue...please share
the solution with the group.

The wmv may be corrupted or not indexed. Either case it may play in WMP. You
could try running it through Windows media file editor.
