cr burner

I tried what you had suggested and got the "recording" tab to appear on the
"properties" page but my burner will still not recognize a CD in the drive.
Everything appears to be working when I do a trouble shoot check but the
drive is just not being recognized...any other suggestion? The burner is a
Samsung sc148A.

Have you checked for a firmware update for that Samsung sc148A?
 
I tried to update the driver to know avail.

You might want to try removing the drive from Device Manager, reboot and let the system recognize the drive again.
