SVCHOST.EXE uses constantly 60%-70% of the CPU. System another
25-30%. There is no CPU capacituy left for any other program.

Is there somebody out there, who can tell me what to do about it ?

If you haven't ran a virus check on your computer, do so because there are some viruses out there that have very similar names to SVCHOST.exe.

Hi,

Open Windows Explorer to C:\Windows\system32\wins

Is there a svchost.exe or dllhost.exe file in here? If so, you have a virus
and should update your AV software and run a full system scan in safe mode.

Svchost.exe is a normal system file, but should be in the system32 folder,
not the wins subfolder.

There are no such files in C:\Windows\system32\wins. To be more specific
there is not a single file in that map. Running Norton AV software in the
safe mode does not work. I just tried to follow up your suggestion.
Thanks anyway.
Theo

Hi Theo,

As I understand it, the Norton disk is bootable, you may want to load it and
run an AV scan from outside of Windows.

There is also the possibility that Norton's utilities are causing the
problem. Try disabling them and see if the issue resolves itself.
