Does a CPU work harder with an on board sound card, rather than a PCI one?

one?DaveW said:Yes. The CPU has to do 100% of the audio signal processing when you have
onboard sound.
Noozer said:Try the onboard sound... When you aren't happy with it, then go out and get
a PCI soundcard. Remember that LOTS of soundcards out there also need the
CPU to do a lot of the work. (Also avoid anything made by Creative)
I am shopping for a new sound card and I would like to know why avoid
creative. ... Thanks.

I second this request. Also, what are good alternatives to Creative?
