CPU Usage problem

My bro has just bought a Venice 3200+ with an Asrock Dual SATA (ULi chipset)
motherboard and 6800GS. He is now saying that he gets constant random spikes
from all programs listed under processes on task man, CPU is pegged out at
100% all the time and the system is lagging to hell. I have got him to
switch off cool'n'quiet but its still doing it.

Any one come across similar and can offer advice?

Les,

I have the same cpu and motherboard and just did a fresh install of WinXP
Pro and I have this annoying triple disk access going on every *2* seconds
and it's driving me nuts.

I went into Task Manager and killed everything that Windows didn't say was
critical and protected and it was still there. Had this problem on another
motherboard and after a disk crash and reinstall on the same hardware it
went away.

I'm mystified and would love for someone with the answer to send it my way.

As far as your brother's board, it looks like it might be something besides
the hardware, but I only have a GeForce 5600 Ultra 128 in mine.

Did he do a clean install? Has he run all the spyware/malware/virus
scanning programs?
