CPU usage maxes out

I have a machine with 512MB Ram and an AMD 3000 CPU. For
some reason occassionally the CPU usage for gcasDTserv
goes up to 99% and stays there for long periods of time
and consequently my machine runs very poorly. This is not
whilst I am doing a formal scan ( which seems to work
fine). It might be related to when new files are
downloaded from the Internet. When does this process run
and what should it do normally. Is it OK for it to use so
much of the CPU.

I have seen one instance myself of high cpu usage by Microsoft Antispyware
related processes, apparently when installing the definitions. I don't have
any suggestions about how to fix this, I'm afraid, except perhaps scheduling
the auto-update process for a time when the machine will be on and a user
logged in, but not otherwise in use.
