CPU usage at 100% constantly after waking from hibernation/sleep

Okay, I'm completely confused on this issue and I've baffled people at Dell,
which from experience isn't hard to do. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with
Vista Home Basic as the OS. My CPU usage bumps between 10% and 44% after I
first start up my computer. And when I allow my computer to sleep and then
wake it up, it runs at 100% constantly. I've tried stopping programs from
running in MSCONFIG, I've ran Ad-Aware 2007, Spyware, Registry Cleaner and
McAfee Virus scan. Nothing has corrected this problem and the programs have
cleaned off a few items, but still nothing has changed. I tried checking the
Reliability and Performance Monitor and I'm not educated enough in computers
to know what I'm looking at. Can someone please give me some ideas to
correct this problem? Dell thinks I should reinstall my OS and start over,
but I don't want to do this unless it's the last possible recourse.
 
Hey guy, the only thing that has worked for me was to simply reboot my
computer. Sometimes it's so bad, I have to hold the power button and do a
forced shutdown. When it logs back on, everything is back to normal... for
about a week and the process repeats itself. Hope this helps.
 
I've tried shutting it down and rebooting it several times. This isn't
working either. it's something that just started happening. I've had the
computer for almost a year now and I've never had a problem with it. I use
it for work, so I'm not downloading things off the internet either. I'm
still confused as to what I can try.
 
I had similar problem with 100% CPU usage. The problem turned out to be a
rogue file in Norton anti vius. Uninstalled and re-installed Norton and all
is fine. Open task manager click on processes and see whats using up the
highest amount of energy then google the file to see what it is.

Until the next problem caused by Norton.
Replace Norton with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows
Defender. Disabling Norton is not enough. You need to completely uninstall
it. Norton is known to cause many problems in Vista and they don’t always
appear immediately.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool.
