CPU upgrades under Win2k

Hi,

Will I need to reinstall Windows 2000 after performing a CPU ugrade? I am
running Sp-4.

No problem changing CPU and other components that does not using spesific
w2k drivers to work.

I upgraded the CPU on a generic win2k machine and ended up with a HAL
(Hardware Allocation Layer) Error, and an unbootable machine. HAL is
very sensitive to major hardware changes.
 
Yes plan on a re-install. You wouldn't think a hardware upgrade would
affect WIN2KPro, but a CPU upgrade (especially going from say a P3 to P4)
will cause problems without an OS re-install.

We do this all the time, and have never ran into a problem yet.
We upgraded 30 some odd machines from PIIs to PIIIs and every one worked
fine.
FYI, it may be a tad bit difficult to go from a PIII to a P4 on the same
board, seeing as the chip architechture and power requirements are so
different. ;-)
