Hi all, I have a P4 2.8E and I was wondering if upgrading it to a P4 3.4E
would take more Frames per second out of my AX800pro?

Thanks in advance, Silva

It'll be faster, but don't expect wonders. If you're only running 512Mb DDR
a better and cheaper upgrade would be to 1 Gig.

600MHz = about 20% increase. This is not noticable, except in benchmarking.
Can't you overclock the 2.8 a bit, and invest the money you save in
something else?

Up to you. Is the price of a 3.4E worth a 20-25% performance gain?

No way going from an 2.8Ghz to a 3.2 Ghz will yield a 25% performance
increase. A 25Mhz Mhz increase, yes. More like a 10% perfromance increase at
most.

You are correct, it was bad arithmetic on my part:

(3.2-2.8)/2.8 = ~ 14% improvement in a purely CPU-bound case, or about 10%
in most games.

You were CORRECT: the OP was referring to a 3.4E:

(3.4-2.8) / 2.8 = 21.42 % improvement.

But again, this is not really that noticable.

:-) The effect of browsing newsgroups under a hangover...

Hahaha... I know what you're saying. I've been having that experience for
two weeks now. Unfortunately, no alcohol was involved :-(
