Hi there,

Ive just upgrded my ram to 512mb kingston pc2700 ddr ( 2x256mb so i
can use dual channel ).
Next i want to upgrade my xp2400+ cpu. was looking at either a barton
core 2500+ or a 2600+, or if i can stretch to it then a 2800+. If i
was to get either a 2500+ or 2600+ would it be much faster than what i
have at the moment.

My mobo is a a7n8x-e deluxe version 2 and my gfx card is a radeon 9800
pro.

thanx

I have two computers working with these - one with a 2600+ and the other
with the 2500+ and I run pc2700 ddr 512mb with both. I have both running at
standard settings - not overclocked. My own personal preference is the
2500+ cpu. It seems to run faster and has been as stable as a rock. both
units run for about 12 hours a day every day and I have not yet had a
problem in the last 6 months.

I have some friends who have done some serious overclocking with the 2500+
and they have been able to get good results with it. I haven't used a 2800+
so can't help you there.

Good luck.

I have the same MoBo but not sure it is version #2.

Am running the Barton 2500 at 2.2 GHz and with the 512 ram set up as you
have.

I could not ask for more performance. It is all I can possibly use but then
again all of us "putters" want to go faster and faster.

in my case the Barton is great. The AMD athlon is being reported at XP 3200+
by cpuz program.

Luck!

but with what you have..I would hold off..I am running Barton 2500
@200x9.5=1900 mhz...performance is incredible...but I would wait and go for
the Athlon 64..because gauging from what you have you are going to want an
upgrade yet again in the next year..just my opinion...and I have an unlocked
Barton so can run at 3200+ speeds

No! If you really want to upgrade something, maybe a nice fast hard
drive would be worth a thought.

It depends on what work you are using your PC for. A 2500+ and 2600+ Barton
is clocked lower than your 2400+ XP, but the Bartons has a larger Level2
cache (hence the higher rating-number).
But whatever you are doing with you PC, you will not get "much faster"
performance. My guess is, that if you pick up a 2800+ Barton, you will
notice it a little, but if you are going from a 2400+ XP to a 2500+ Barton,
the only difference will be your empty wallet.
I have gone from a 2400+ to an Athlon64 3200+, and I can feel the difference
in some games, but not in all (some games has the gfx card as the bottle
neck.
