I have a A7A133 mb with a 1.1 GHz AMD Thunderbird. Is it possible to upgrade
with a faster CPU and if so what is the experience?

I just put a 2000+ in one about two weeks ago.. It's one of my pc's I gave
to my inlawas and to be honest I had no troubles at all. I did need to
update the bios for it to see the chip tho. It officially supports anything
up to a 2600+ (133/266) or any chip that has a max fsb of up to 133/266

What version of the A7V133 board? Look between the PCI slots. Notice
that there are two versions of 1.05, with and without a trailing dot.
If you have the 1.05. then you can pretty much have your choice. If
you 1.05 with no dot (like me) then anything above 1.4 is not
supported. Anything less than 1.05 is also not good. Here, this is the
official stuff:

This page is the unofficial poop:

Notice the charts near the bottom. They give some hope for us dotless
folks that palominos will work. Well, I tried to get a 1600+ to work
for two weeks. Couldn't get an OS stable and couldn't get prime95 to
run for 10 minutes. High vcore, low vcore. Whatever.

However, it may work fine for you. Good luck.

Thanks for comments. As far as I know A7V133 has an other chipset (VIA
KT133) compared to A7A133 (ALi M1647). I guess that will make a difference
in functions/availability?

the A7V and A7A are different boards.. There is a bit more to it than the
chipsets (similar design)..
Read my previous post and visit asus

Thanks for your advice and comments!
I have just successfully updated the BIOS to 1012 and will go and buy an AMD
XP2200+ on friday (when my wife is out of town...)
