Hi all;

Where the CPU connects to the Power Supply a pin is missing. Will this cause
the PC to not operate??

Cheers

Where the MOTHERBOARD connects to the power supply...

No, a missing pin is most commonly one that wasn't needed, a
particular voltage that the power suppply's specification
could provide, but is not need by that particular (age of)
system.

It is curious that you question whether it would cause the
PC not to operate, since it would be reasonable to assume
that the system did operate fine, that a wire won't suddenly
disappear nor a floppy cable suddenly rip in 3 pieces and
twist itself, etc.

Actually I have never tested the system I am desembling.

I didn't have the required cabling to test it.

It's picked up from the streets and just using common sense I thought if the
CPU hosts a 3-pin connection but only two pins are in existence the Computer
may not work at all.

I'd guess i'll always be curious whether it'll work or not because its
picked up from the streets and computers are usually put to the streets for
a reason.

Power supply ?? I think we are talking about the 3 pin connector for the CPU
fan. Is the fan spinning?

Yes, because the're old/slow, or if one part failed, which
is not quitethe same as wires disappearing or mystically
splitting and twisting around.

I can appreciate that you're learning, but assume that
whoever built it, knew more than you already and that it's
not common for someone to take a working system and do
something silly like remove a single wire entirely from an
ATX connector.

Still not enough info...
which pin is missing? If you know so little perhaps you shouldn't be
playing with such dangerous stuff!

If it were a broken PSU, I would swap it out, and then test the machine!
