Hi I got my sisters pc running and it seems pretty stable .
Mobo MSI MS-6741(K8MM-ILSR)
CPU Athalon 64 3400+ 512 L2 Cache

On start up
HDD 30 C
CPU 40 C
MB 32 C

After one hour of vid decoding

HDD 36 C
CPU 59 to 64 C
MB 43 C

Room temp for all about 24 C.

Is that an acceptable set of operating temps . I have AMDs Cool N Quiet installed and running . At least I think its running , get a small window to show and it says "CPU 2400 mhz , Voltage 1.4750v" can't find any way of setting it or any othere info , guess its working :o
So is me pc frying or just simmering :D

Just simmering  It should be ok 70C is about tops for CPU, to be safe how many case fans do you have?

In my opinion......

59C is way too hot, let alone 64C, I'd say it's close to frying.

Anything 50C or under is acceptable, over 58C things can get unstable.

Consider a new cooler/case fans/good cleaning.

The AMD 64 is relatively easy to cool with it's large surface area.

I have 3 systems here, 2 socket A's and an AMD 64, they run crunching all the time, so CPU always maxed out. Temps never higher than 48C. On real hot summer days I must admit the socket A's may creep as high as 54C, but no higher than that.

I'm using Gigabyte and Thermalright coolers, 2 Lian Li cases and one Antec case.

Yep, too hot for an Athlon 64 ... I don't have that 'cool' stuff running and my system and it is @ 44c running WCG 24/7 ;)

Stock cooler, one case fan all bunged into a tin can, well a steel can actually. :D

Consider a new cooler/case fans/good cleaning.
Echo that.

I've just built the thing an theres not a scrap of dust anywhere .

Cooler is brand new from e-buyer , Coolermaster DK8-8132A-99 .

Only one case fan and its not very well positioned down at the bottom of the front of the case . I think I put it in the wrong way round , there were no arrows on it , so I've turned it around and now it extracts air .

I don't think its a dodgy cpu or anything else like that as it seems to run at a constant temp , think its airflow or lack of it .

Ran Everests tests and results are ,

I think after looking at the problem it seems to me that the psu is interfering with the air flow from the cpu . Its an odd case I've got . So as I've managed to lower the temps by a small margin already , I'm going to take out the psu and put it on the floor of the case and see if that makes a difference . If it does I guess I'll have to make a new hole in the case for it . Havn't got a decent enough camera to post any pics of the problem thank goodness as youd only laugh at me homemade rack for the floppy drive . :D :D
