CPU Temp N/A on P2B ?

I have a few P2B systems. They all report "N/A" on the BIOS screen for
CPU temp. One that I checked has a Cel 333, the other PII366, both
report "N/A".

Shouldn't these be reporting their temp ? Or was that a later CPU
feature?

Thanks,

You need to attach a thermal probe at the respective location on the
board. (IIRC this should be an NTC resistor, 10k @ 25°C.) Reading the
temperature directly from the internal diode was not supported until the
P3B-F, although your processors (BTW: there is no 366 MHz desktop PII)
would allow it.

What's an NTC resistor ? I am familiar with electronic components but
that one is new to me. Also, is there a handy web page that
illustrates the place/procedure to attach it?

That would explain why it works on my P3BF :-)

LOL. OK, how about a PIII/366 then ? It runs at 550, so I could make
it a PIII/550 if you want.

Thanks,

Whoops, got that wrong. It must be a *thermistor*. (Sorry, not yet an
expert in electronic components.) How to build a probe:

That should be shown in the manual. The connector is called JTCPU,
between the WOL connector and VIO jumper, next to the AGP slot.

OK, that's better. ;) The box doesn't have a lot to do, I guess?
