I just performed a clean install of Windows XP on an IBM 600X laptop. This laptop has a 650MHz PIII processor which is being reported as a 498 MHz processor. Any ideas?

you have to set the cpu speed in the bois ...if you don't know to much about the bois setup i wouldn't do it ...but its in the bois under cpu or chip ...if you could tell me more info ...like what kinda bois you have.. i could help you more ..

Does the speed show the same when you are on battery power and A/C? Your
processor may be a "speed step", which runs at a lower speed on battery to
save power. You need to install the driver for this. Have you checked the
IBM web site to find the driver? There are probably other drivers\software
you need to install after the clean install. Laptops need special drivers
not included in the retail XP.
