CPU running wild...HELP!!!

I recently installed windows xp on my compouter. There
are a total 0f 16 processes running when I look at task
manager, and there are no programs besides the basic
windows ones running, yet my cpu usage is in the 50's-
middle 80's...why?
I have closed down what I could, like norton antivirus.
I am stuck, and my comp seems to be burning itself up.
Can anyone advise me here?

By chance is one of these processes the "System Idle Process". If so,
that's ok.

If not, then what are the 16 processes?

I have 56 processses running and CPU usage ranges from 0 to 100% and I'm
not bothered by that. Just becuase the CPU is utilised does not imply a
burning up computer.
