i put windows xp on the cpu
First, a word on the terminology. You put Windows XP on the computer, or
more accurately, on the hard drive. You certainly didn't put it on the CPU,
which is just a single chip inside the computer
and now it is taking forever for anything
to open or do anything . ive contacted the internet provider to see
if that wasnt running with the xp and all is well there. anyone know
what i can do to change it back to running faster. very new to xp.
all replies appreciated
Were you previously running Windows 98 or perhaps Windows Me? If so, you
need to be aware that Windows XP makes much greater demands on the hardware
than those older operating systems did, and needs a much more powerful
computer to run at acceptable speed. The offical minimums of a 233MHz
processor and 64MB of memory are what you need to get XP to run at all, but
those won't run it at acceptable speed. A more realistic minimum is a
machine with a 400MHz processor and at least 256MB of RAM; even that will be
slow, but at least usable by most people Most older computers don't meet
those specs, particularly with regard to having enough RAM. My guess is that
your system just isn't powerful enough, but post back with more details
about it for more information.
