Hello everybody,

I'm having a problem with my newly installed XP pro system.

The speed of transfering data from a CD to the HD is very
slow. For a full disk, it takes more than an hour.

The speed of deleting data is about the same!

I checked my IRQ's and every component has a unique number.

I haven't changed any drivers and there are no drivers to
roll back to for the processor or the HD.

And everything was fine on this install a few days ago.

I also tried to restore to a previous state, but nothing
changed, even when I went back to times I didn't have this
problem.

Got a clue? I sure could use some help!

The first thing I would check is to make sure your IDE devices are set to
use DMA mode if available.
To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager

1.
Open Device Manager.

2.
Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the list of
controllers and channels.

3.
Right-click the icon for the channel to which the device is connected,
select Properties, and then click the Advanced Settings tab.

4.
In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if Available if
the current setting is "PIO Only."
If the drop-down box already shows "DMA if Available" but the current
transfer mode is PIO, then the user must toggle the settings. That is:

. Change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and
click OK.

. Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to DMA if
Available.
