CPU Malfunction Symptoms

What do you think is the cause of a PC not starting up at all? No error
display, no BIOS error beep code, not even letting me get into the BIOS to
investigate the problem.

I just recently ruled out the power supply since I've hence purchased
another motherboard and CPU and had it working just fine inside the same PC
case.

I was wondering if it could be the old CPU that's causing the problem. But
if it were, wouldn't the BIOS give me a warning? Or could the system
(including the BIOS) even work at all with a malfunctioning CPU?

Really appreciate if you could help me out on this one. Even though I
purchased a new motherboard and CPU, I would still like to salvage my old
one.

By the way, my old CPU and motherboard was a AMD Athlon XP +1900 and a
Giga-Byte GA-7VAXP motherboard.

Thanks again...

Without looking at it and/or swapping parts, it's impossible to tell. It
could be just about any part that's gone bad. I've even seen a fried modem
that wouldn't let a computer start. It could be a short somewhere, like a
screw behind the motherboard. Or it could be motherboard, memory, CPU, or
any add-in card you have.
