My 2600XP runs at about 57 on average and this seems a bit on the hot side.
What do your chips run at?

Thanks

That is normal for and XP and spending money to drop it will not be worth it
the amount of the drop.
I have a AMD-64 and was shocked to find it runs at 45-50 at full steam and
39-42 at idle.

My A64 at full load is only a couple C more then my Barton idles at! ;p

It's within specs in either case but if that's a socket temp, it's high.
Most with decent cooling will idle in the 30's or low 40's. BTW, the temp
is relative, so without knowing ambient and case temps it's all a guess.

Most A64s I have seen run 10-20 degrees cooler than an XP with similar
cooling solutions.

AMD-64's use lower voltage, run cooler, and have a lower limit.

When my HP Athlon 64 3200+ boots, BIOS says 45C and it runs anywhere from
under 40C idle to 52C at full load on a hot day (with hotter than standard
video card). Limit for AMD 64 desktop cpus is 70C.

Under the same conditions a similar Compaq Athlon XP 3000+ boots at 65C
and runs from under 60C idle to 69C at full load on a hot day. Limit for
32-bit AMD desktop chips 2200+ and greater is 85C.

So a temperature that is perfectly acceptable for AMD XP might be
unacceptable for my AMD 64.
