CPU Fan. I think I got the wrong part again.

I have a KT7A RAID mobo. The CPU fan went out.
The replacement fan I ordered came with a molex plug and a 3 pin
plug. I assumed that would allow the fan to be used as a case fan or
a CPU fan.

Well the 3 pin only has 1 wire attached. It says it is a temperature
sensor that will change the speed of the fan with temperature.

Can this be used as a CPU fan? Will it work to just put the 3 pin
where the CPU fan was and plug the molex into another molex?

Would I have to change BIOS settings?

Unless you want to use the fan throttling feature, just plug the fan's
molex connector in and let it run at full speed. What difficulties are
you having buying a basic 60mm or 80mm CPU fan?

Well the first problem I had was determining the size of the fan. I
measured the fan from hole to hole instead of outside to outside. So
the first fan I bought was too small.

After learning that little tidbit the hard way, the next fan I ordered
was back ordered.

I knew I needed a 3 pin 60mm fan and that is what it looked like in
the pic.

I seem to overlook some pretty simple things. Computer parts are
often a string of numbers. When I see that many numbers that close
together my eyes glaze over and I go into a trance. :)

So here is the bad news....some mobo refuse to even start if they do not
sense a fan on that CPU fan connector on the mobo....so you do need to
attach the 3 pin for the mobo to "see" the fan and run.

It is working in spite of it's incompetent operator. I went ahead and
plugged the 3 pin into the CPU fan slot. I don't know if I had to or
not, but I did.
