? CPU compat. on A7V266-E, bios 1011

Hi,

I'm deciding to upgrade my 1700+ CPU to a higher performance CPU.

According to the official bios history of the A7V266-E the highest possible
performance CPU for bios 1011 is a 2600+, 266FSB.

However, is it possible to suit the A7V266-E with i.e. a Barton 2800+,
333FSB?

Prices a somewhat the same the places I can purchase the CPU's. And
settleling with a 2600+ (266) wouldn't be that great if had the option of
upgrading to af Barton 2800+ (333) with a larger L2 cache.

Your board only supports a 266FSB. The 2800+ requires a 333FSB to run at
full speed.

Your best bet is a 2600+ running 266FSB.

If you believe AMD's performance ratings, the 2600+ is 53% faster than your
1700+. The 2800+ only gives you another 7.7% over the 2600+.

I'll be buying the 2600+ (266fsb) for sure, and keep my old board a littel
longer until ultimate upgrading.

The latest bios is 1012 which I think you may require
I have just replaced a 1800+ with a 2400+ and its fine

No bios available on corporate website for the ASUS A7V266-E named 1012.
Only 1011 or 1015beta.

Sadly, corporate info about the board doesn't say anything about Barton. In
fact, the info about the bios suitable for the A7V266-E is VERY LIMITED.
Seems as if nobody really vared about that board even though it was the ASUS
Socket A flagship, once.
