After installing Win 2K on my computer when I open Internet Explorer it take 97
to 99 percent of system resources and is unable to close without closing the
application in the Task Manager. Internet Explorer however still remains
usuable. So far it has been recommended that I disable all processes that are
unnecessary - that did not help. Also it was recommended that I change
LargeSystemCache to 1 in the registry. That also did not help. I have
reinstalled explorer and reinstalled win2k as an upgrade with no luck. I can't
believe I have uncovered a bug that no one has ever seen before - pleaaaasee
help me!

Thanks,
Fred

I had this problem... I set up a new user account, and everything worked
fine when using that account. So if the same is true for you, one
option would be to set up a new account and copy over your desktop and
start menu settings. That is what I was planning to do with mine.

Then I installed the latest version of IE, about a month or so ago.
After that, it would shut down almost immediately after I started it, so
I no longer had the problem with it consuming system resources. Good
solution for me, since my preferred browser is Netscape anyway.

Then about a week ago, I installed latest version of Object Desktop
(from stardock.com). I'd been running the program all along, but just
upgraded to the most recent version. The program is one of those that
runs a version of IE inside the program... Quicken does the same thing,
sort of has an IE window that is internal to the program, and that
worked OK. Anyway, after purchasing the new version of Object Desktop,
it has you install "Stardock Central", and one of the tabs you can
select from the Stardock Central window is a web browser. After the 2nd
or 3rd time I clicked on the tab for that window, it spawned an external
IE window. And it worked! Everything is fine now.

I have absolutely no idea what happened to fix it... I had tried all
sorts of registry editing, and copying files from one user account to
another, nothing helped. I did a lot of searching via Google, and found
other people with the same problem, but no one with a solution. And I
have no idea if your system will react the same way as mine. I suspect
I just got lucky with the Object Desktop installation. If you run the
program anyway, go ahead and update the files. Otherwise, I'd try
creating the new user account and see what happens.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I look forward to trying these things
and appreciate your taking the time.
